A picture book reading: Mum’s Jumper by Jayde Perkin 4 October 2020 mentalhealth mental health Grief is such a difficult thing… I find that I often don’t know what to say or do, and neither does the other person. With grief and loss, it often feels like there is this space and distance filled with good intention and a desire to help, but often… there are just no words. This book I was given for Christmas provides a simple and warm way of engaging with the topic of grief for both young and old. With children especially, I imagine these topics are particularly difficult to talk about. I find picture books to be an avenue for exploring challenging topics and are just generally lovely. For me, whether it’s the story, the metaphor, or just the pictures themselves… picture books can provide me with an avenue to process my feelings or communicate when I don’t have the words myself. I hope this picture book reading takes you back to a nostalgic time of crossed legs and your imagination… grab your little one and/or your teddy, let’s sit down for a story.
